Free Videos 2009

Videos have come a long long way on the internet. It used to be a grueling task just to watch a simple video and everyone was using embedding Windows Media Player to watch them on sites like ebaumsworld.com and metacafe.com back in the day. The huge burst in popularity that has graced the internet with it's viperous rate of growth has posed a few problems for those who run free streaming video websites. For one, quality of search is an issue, and second, the all mighty bandwidth issue.

Site owners in the video field can have a difficult Job managing bandwidth costs for a video websites. Videos go viral and most sites will allow embeds. Most of the time an embedded video won't create any significant ad revenue so it just becomes a cost. Site owners have learned to battle with the beast of a problem by embedding flash ads within the videos themselves. Some companies have sprung up around this concept, such as LongTail and others. I am a firm believer that in accordance with Moore's law, or rather, a byproduct of, bandwidth costs will continue to sink, as video compression improves.

Its sometimes tough to find the videos you're looking for. When you're on a free videos site, every 8 year old with a brain can upload massive amounts of crap videos like for instance, one of them picking their nose, whining about Britney Spears or one of those lame retarded Rick Roll videos. Since videos contain no data, users are asked to enter it when they submit a video, and easily can fool search engines. It's been a long time coming, but this problem needs to be solved. It seemingly has no end in sight, but again in accordance with the almighty law of technological advance, this hurdle will be overcome and free videos will not only grace the web in full force, as it seems it has already, but it will grace the interwebs gracefully.
